smithsherman ::: Favorites 2007-10-30 20:16:42 ..."It's how the man himself...would have heard it" I never cease to be amazed at how people who are removed 2 1/2 centuries...or more from Bach, will tell us that ...(they know exactly how he would have heard it.) They may know Baroque music...but they can't speak for Bach. __________________________________________________

WTFunnn ::: Favorites 2007-09-11 07:01:01 It is so fortunate to see an antique harpsichord in action, under a masters hands. This is an anonymous French harpsichord from late 17th century in Villa Medici, abosutely wonerful!! __________________________________________________
antetdi ::: Favorites 2007-09-09 20:35:20 I reply that I like the way he plays it, because it is more "dance like" and moving than what we usually hear. By the way, everyone should listen to his "Scarlatti 1" CD. It Makes me cry! __________________________________________________
IQHQ ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 09:27:06 Hantai is just fantastic... i'll never forget first hearing his recording of the Well-Tempered Clavier for the first time... I was in Virgin Megastores on Oxford Circus in London, and I had intended just to sample it... I ended up listening to the full recording, so overwhelmed was I by his interpretation. __________________________________________________
guyoftheplace ::: Favorites 2007-08-21 20:23:03 don't listen to smithsherman. it tries to make us miserable however it can. it can go back to rachmaninov and stay there. __________________________________________________
lukaspin ::: Favorites 2007-08-11 20:34:43 Hi pierre,It's a pleasure to found artists as you. I'm afraid if people don't like harpsichords...they need new ears, maybe new brains to appreciate you...have a nice work __________________________________________________
luria ::: Favorites 2007-07-09 16:52:30 Ahhh. That makes sense. I don't have perfect pitch, but that harpsichord sounded a little flat to me. Thanks for the info. __________________________________________________
smithsherman ::: Favorites 2007-07-08 14:54:43 Dear Jaddle,He doesn't have techniques of attention holding, note 2 note. His playing is as expressively unfocused,as it is technically focused. This music has nothing to do with any dance.Sarabande in name only.Regards,Smith __________________________________________________
jaddle ::: Favorites 2007-07-08 12:54:08 A=392Hz is a fairly common pitch for baroque music, especially late 17th century French music. It's basically equivalent to putting things down a tone. That said, it's more common these days for all baroque music to be played with A=415Hz, (a semitone lower than 440). There were a lot of different pitch standards used at the time though. __________________________________________________
jaddle ::: Favorites 2007-07-08 12:47:07 What do you mean by 'portamento'? The term isn't usually used regarding harpsichord playing. While I generally like a fairly free interpretation, with tempo changes and the like, I don't think it's really appropriate here. Best to keep the character of the sarabande dance, and to keep the aria simple. After all, there are plenty of tempo changes and surprises in the variations that follow! __________________________________________________
DanSandwich ::: Favorites 2007-07-01 10:48:00 a great performance, I HATE the way he palys the laft hand before the rigtht __________________________________________________ |
