Description: Before Faye Wong transformed herself into Hong Kong/Asia's indie pop queen in 1994, she was previously known as Shirley Wong, majored in R&B flavored songs and adult contemporary ballads. And Shirley was damn GOOD at it! Everything from the compelling soulful vocal style to the rapid mix of chest and head voice, plus the high notes here and there, she was a fabulous "yellow soul" singer. A few great examples were Karyn White's Superwoman, Deele's Two Occasions, The Party's Storm Me and here's Lisa Fischer's So Intense. When Shirley covered songs, she usually sang it at the original key with no dodging of high notes, of course the only difference here is the whistle register high G flat note that Lisa sang towards the end. I still miss the old Faye, Shirley!
