jemidar ::: Favorites 2007-11-24 11:52:27 I had the privilege of traveling to New York on a tour and everything IS quite expensive. In Chicago, there are a lot of Spanish-speaking people willing to teach others for free. I was taught some Spanish. But it's slowly slipping away because I do not exercise it enough. I know a number of people who have learned this language simply by being around it a lot. __________________________________________________
jemidar ::: Favorites 2007-11-24 12:07:28 There are people who volunteer their time to teach others Spanish in my area. Regarding New York, my sister and a cousin have made it a practice to fly up there just to shop. And when they return, they resale the merchandise. I'm not into fashions, but evidently there must be some bargains in clothing & accessories up there. __________________________________________________

poptalk ::: Favorites 2007-11-24 18:45:57 Great Spanish! You have a unique accent and outlook on the language situation, especially regarding opportunities for non-native speakers of both Spanish and English (or any other foreign language) to facilitate two-way communication. At the end of the day, does the investment by govts to subsidize these courses justify the costs? That is the question to ponder. - yp __________________________________________________
darocsking ::: Favorites 2007-11-24 19:22:01 some public libraries carry the rosetta stone program for free. All you need is a library card and some time. Obviously you have both. Have fun! __________________________________________________

(this is portuguse... a bit simular is it not) Eu sou portuguese e eu viviu en inglaterra para meu vido intero. E eu tambem nao sabe onde voce pode ir para apprender a falar espanol! MR-(LOL) Mas na mesmo tempo voce fala tao bem eu nao sabe se e presico. Great post! You even have the proper pronounciation down to a "T". __________________________________________________
poptalk ::: Favorites 2007-11-25 06:41:30 Tonya, you continue to amaze me. Great idea, free Spanish, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, dirty knees (hey Van :) classes for everyone! But the reality is that it is important that non English speaking people have the opportunity to learn English because this will help provide them with a better education, more job opportunities and connections. __________________________________________________
poptalk ::: Favorites 2007-11-25 06:43:04 In Turkey, learning English is very important, and they are aware that English has become the Universal language. Lucky for us it wasn't Turkish, French or any other language because Americans would be fucked! Ebonia __________________________________________________
TonyaTko ::: Favorites 2007-11-25 09:11:29 Theres a strange irony in it... because no where else in the world (that I know of) is the gov't going to give you free lessons. Is this a form of assimilation? or a service to the Americans that don't want to deal with non-English? __________________________________________________ |
